Sacraments

A sacrament is a very special way in which God enters our life.

It is a sign that God is giving us a powerful Grace.
There are three types of Sacraments:

  • Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation)
  • Sacraments of Healing (Confession, Anointing of the Sick),
  • Sacraments of Commitment (Matrimony, Holy Orders).

We offer sacramental preparation for:

  • Baptism
  • Reconciliation
  • First Communion
  • Confirmation
  • Matrimony

Baby Baptism

Baptism

What is Baptism?

Jesus was baptized and taught his Apostles to do likewise. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God. We become members of the Body of Christ as we are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. We can’t wait to welcome your child into the life of Christ and our Church through Baptism. To get started, please fill out the baptism inquiry form and our team will reach out to you.

Reconciliation

What is Reconciliation?

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is about the mercy of Jesus Christ. Honestly confessing our sins reconciles us to God and restores us to his grace and intimate friendship. Confession breaks the power of shame and hurt of sin, and restores and revitalizes our relationships within the community of faith in the life of our Church. If you would like to make confession, please request a confession or visit with your parish priest

Communion

What is the Eucharist?

Communion, also called Holy Eucharist, is the third Sacrament of Initiation. The word ‘Eucharist’ comes from the Greek word for ‘Thanksgiving’. When we receive the Eucharist at Mass, Jesus is feeding us with His body and blood making us one with Him and with each other so that we can go out into the world and be His hands and feet to others. Unlike Baptism and Confirmation, which can only be received once, the Eucharist is received over and over throughout our lives.

Preparation for Confirmation is a journey for you, the student. Your parents, family, friends, and sponsor will be here every step of the way to support you. But you need to be ready. Holy Orders

What is Holy Orders?

Since the time of the Apostles, Christ has personally called forth some men to dedicate their lives ministering to the People of God in the service of the Church as a priest. To discuss or learn more about a vocation to the Catholic priesthood, check out the Diocese of Rapid City’s Vocations or the Jesuits Vocations websites.

Anointing of the Sick

What is Anointing of the Sick?

When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God’s will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit’s gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.

Requesting an Anointing

There is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. Those of Catholics whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age can request an Anointing. Please contact us if you or a loved one would like to receive the sacrament.
